This is a pearl and leather jewelry business I started as a freshman in high school. The brand is called Pearls + Leather. I traveled up the coast to source all the material. I hand picked each pearl to be sure of their luster, shape, size, and color. I tested an array of leather sizes in search of the perfect strength for the leather cord, to be able to support each individual pearl. Valuing organic materials, free of dyes or enhancements, was very important to me. Another aspect of the brand was giving back. I wanted to set up a way to give a portion of the profits to the home of these natural treasures. The website was designed and created entirely by me. This brand is a reflection of the small beach town where I live.

My goal for this dress was to create something out of materials that already exist. The idea of reuse, re-purpose, and recycle. When people see trash in a different context it is both inspiring and provokes thought. This video is meant to take you through the step by step of collecting, washing, cutting, sewing, and glueing that turns trash into something useful. The dress is a metaphor for fashion.
